What should be done in snake bite?

 

It is very important to take quick and proper action in case of snake bite, as it can be fatal if not treated properly in time.  Below are some steps to take in case of snake bite:

1.  Keeping calm and keeping the patient calm:

Encourage the patient to remain calm.  The more you move, the faster the poison will spread throughout your body.

Make sure there is no pressure on the bite area.

2.  Reduced movement of the affected area:

Try to limit movement of the affected limb (arm or leg).

If possible, keep the affected limb at or below the level of the heart, so that the poison does not spread rapidly throughout the body.

3.  Bandage Use:

Gently wrap with a clean cloth or bandage keeping some distance from the affected area.

But do not tie too tightly, so as not to stop blood circulation.

The purpose of binding is to slow down the poison, but not to stop it completely.

4. Take to hospital as soon as possible:

Get to the nearest hospital or medical center as soon as possible.

Anti-venom injection may be necessary to provide proper treatment to a snakebite patient.

5.  Do not try to extract the venom by cutting or sucking the wound:

Do not attempt to extract the venom by cutting or sucking the bite site in any way.  This can spread the poison further.

6.  Do not apply anything to the bite site:

Do not apply ice, clay, ointment or any other substance to the bite.  This can cause damage and increase the risk of infection.

7.  Avoid doing anything special:

Do not give the affected person any food or drink, especially alcohol or caffeine.

Do not panic the patient by talking unnecessarily.

8.  Try to understand the identity of the snake:

Remember what the snake looked like if possible, but don't try to catch or kill the snake.  This can help doctors select the right antivenom.
